Bayer Leverkusen are still undefeated in the Bundesliga and top the table with a commanding 13-point lead over current champions Bayern Munich.
No side other than Bayern has won the German Bundesliga since 2011/12, but Xabi Alonso is closing in on a magnificent achievement in his early managerial career.
His stellar season in charge of Leverkusen has seen him attract top attention all around Europe, and most recently he was the favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool following his departure at the end of the season.
Much to the delight of Leverkusen fans, though, Alonso put to bed the rumors and confirmed he will remain as the German club's coach next season.

Leverkusen have only dropped points on four occasions this season and their recent 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim on March 30 saw them reach 73 points, the second-highest total at this stage of a Bundesliga season.
The only team to surpass that feat was Pep Guardiola's Bayern side in 2013/14, who amassed 77 points by Matchday 27 and ultimately went on to secure the title.
Following Bayern's 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on March 30, the gap to the league leaders has widened to 13 points. In Bundesliga history, no team holding such a substantial lead at the top has failed to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
Bayern's 11-year dominance appears to be over.
