Fabio Vieira is one of the names that could be mentioned a few times in the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad.
The 23-year-old was brought to the club in a £35 million deal from Porto. He joined Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Jorginho, Jakub Jakub Kiwior, and Aaron Ramsdale as signings made by Arteta as Arsenal looked to build a squad capable of cementing a challenge at the top of the Premier League every season.
It has mostly been successful, with the club mounting a challenge for the title both this year and last year. Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Man City.
While the likes of Jesus, Zinchenko, and Trossard have played a big part in those challenges, it has been more difficult for Vieira. After mainly being used as a substitute in the Premier League last season, he has found game time even more difficult this time around.
After recovering from undergoing groin surgery, Vieira has played just 46 minutes of the last nine games in all competitions. It seems that the midfielder is not trusted to step in for Martin Odegaard in Arsenal’s midfield with Emile Smith Rowe replacing the captain for the final 10 minutes of the last Premier League game against Aston Villa.
It now seems that Arsenal will be on the lookout for an upgrade on Vieira in the summer transfer window, leaving him with even fewer chances for game time if he remains at the Emirates Stadium. His situation mirrors that of another 2022 signing.
