Jack Wilshere has blasted Jamie Carragher for his claims that Jurgen Klopp ranks above Arsene Wenger as a better manager and has called on the ex-Liverpool defender 'not to be so biased.'
It came after Klopp said farewell to Anfield on Sunday, following nearly nine years in charge at the club. The German is widely regarded as one of the best managers of the Premier League era, guiding the Reds to a Premier League title, FA Cup and two Carabao Cups, while clinching the Champions League in 2019.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, Carragher reflected on his top-five managers of the Premier League era, stating: 'I would put him [Jurgen Klopp] above Wenger, with the only reason being the Champions League.'
His comments appeared to infuriate former Wilshere, who had risen through the academy ranks at the north London club to hone his skills under the legendary Arsenal boss, Wenger.
'[It is] unbelievable how he [Klopp] transformed Liverpool but Arsene’s legacy in the premier league is second to none,' Wilshere wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
'Sorry Jamie but you are miles off it, please don’t be so biased and respect Arsene and what he done over a longer period, including leading the only team in the premier league to be invincible.'
Carragher had placed Pep Guardiola at the top of his managerial rankings, notably above serial Premier League winner Sir Alex Ferguson, with the Spanish manager having clinched four consecutive league titles with Man City, while also completing the Treble last season.
But Wilshere, who is currently coaching Arsenal's U18 side after retiring from professional football in 2022, continued to emphasise the impact that Wenger had on the Premier League with his Arsenal sides
