Women's World Cup fever may be at the forefront of everyone's minds, but the WSL fixture list for the 2023/24 season is already here — including some early clashes
Many WSL stars have made the journey Down Under to Australia and New Zealand for the FIFA Women's World Cup, kicking off in just two days time. But when they return to England, the WSL resumes in full swing from the 1st October.
At the end of the World Cup, teams resume pre-season training in early September where clubs will kick start their preparations ahead of the season where clubs like Arsenal will partake in their Champions League round one qualifiers.
Following this, players then head on international duty where the start of the Nations League group stage begins, before heading back to their club just in time for the WSL to start once again.
The opening weekend of fixtures hosts a range of tough clashes with Manchester United heading to ambitious Aston Villa at Villa Park and Liverpool travellig to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. After Villa proved themselves as a top contender last season, and Liverpool sprung a shock on Chelsea on the opening weekend last time around, both of these fixtures could be tricky.
Reigning champions Chelsea host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in the first London derby of the season. Newly promoted Bristol City take on Leicester in what could determine the trajectory of the campaign for both sides as they look to climb the table, whilst Manchester City travel to Dagenham to face West Ham. Everton will host Brighton as the two teams restart their campaigns in the hopes of having better opening fixtures than last season.
