Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that he will not be taking the soon-to-be-vacated manager seat at Bayern Munich, quashing the rumours linking him to the high-profile job. Zidane cleared the air while attending the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday (May 5) where McLaren's Lando Norris won his first Formula 1 race.
Speaking to SkyDE, Zidane was quizzed about who will win between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich during the second leg of the Champions League semifinal.
«Who will win between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich this weekend? Hopefully Madrid. But it's going to be a difficult game,» said Zidane.
Pressed further if he would be sitting in the HBayern dugout, come the summer, Zidane gave a straight response.
«No, it will not happen. I'm going to watch the game, I will cheer for Real Madrid and hopefully Real Madrid will win. It will be a difficult game,» he added.
Zidane to return to manager duties?
Notably, Zidane was appointed the ambassador of the Alpine F1 team, earlier this year. At the time of the announcement, the legendary Frenchman said he could be back in a managerial capacity, as early as June.
«It's part of our deal. If I have to commit tomorrow, that won't prevent me from continuing to work with the team,» said Zidane.
«Resuming remains my desire. Today, I have time and I don't know how long it will last. I have time now, maybe until June, but it can also go very quickly.»
Zidane, during his relatively short spell as Real Madrid's manager (2016-18, 2019-20) won every silverware there was to win.
