Aaron Ramsey is set to sign a two-year deal with Cardiff as the Wales captain prepares to rejoin his hometown club.
The Championship club have structured a contract that also includes the option of a third year for Ramsey, 15 years after he left Cardiff to join Arsenal as a 17-year-old.
Ramsey was keen to return to south Wales for family reasons and Cardiff was always his first choice, after interest from the Saudi Pro League never developed into a formal offer.
He was most recently at Nice, where he opted not to sign an extension despite making 34 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.
Cardiff are currently under an EFL transfer embargo until January but they are still permitted to make free transfer signings.
Speaking in June, Ramsey said: ‘For sure one day I would love to go back there [Cardiff City].
It's where I grew up and them giving me that opportunity and platform to go on to what I have achieved so far in my career, I will forever be grateful.’
Before last year’s World Cup, Cardiff attempted to sign another Wales hero, Gareth Bale, only for the former Real Madrid man to move to Los Angeles FC instead, his final club before retiring.
At 32, Ramsey still believes he has plenty left in the tank and the move to Cardiff would also allow him to work closely with in Wales physio Sean Connelly.
Ramsey believes his fitness has not always been managed correctly but has complete trust in Connelly.
