Sports goods manufacturer Adidas is producing a remake of the famous blue shirt that George Best wore in Manchester United’s epic European Cup Final win at Wembley in 1968.
And already fans in Greece and Canada have expressed an interest in getting their hands on the special tribute to the late Belfast megastar, which features George’s signature near the cuffs along with United ’s classic crest.
George inspired his Old Trafford team-mates to a 4-1 win over Benfica to lift the European trophy for the first time in the club’s history, ten years after the Munich air disaster decimated the side.
The royal blue shirt and shorts that Sir Matt Busby’s team donned at Wembley were part of United’s ‘away’ kit at the time. Benfica who like United normally played in red, wore white shirts in 1968
George who played for United between 1963 and 1974 always said the Wembley triumph was one of the highlights of his career with the Red Devils.
