Current Football Focus host Alex Scott and the show's former presenter, Dan Walker, have been involved in a public dispute regarding the future of the programme. It comes after recent figures revealed that Football Focus' ratings have significantly dropped as of late, which propelled Dan to speak out in support of the BBC show. Expressing his worry via social media, the 46 year old penned a heartfelt message to his grid with the caption: "Focus on football." "It's hard to see Football Focus struggling.
I loved it growing up and it was an honour to present it and I still miss it," he wrote. "We poured everything into that show each week and worked hard to keep it relevant. I hope it stays part of the TV landscape." For some context, Dan presented the sports show for 12 years, from 2009 to 2021.
He was succeeded by Alex Scott MBE, a former professional footballer, who took over the role the same year.
The premise of the sports programme is to look at the latest news from the English and Scottish football scene, including all levels of the game. In response to Dan's words, which he also posted on Twitter, Alex seemingly replied in disagreement.
The 38 year old dropped a GIF below the post, which featured Miranda Cosgrove's character, Carly from TV series iCarly, sipping on a Coca Cola and mouthing the word "interesting." Dan quickly addressed any potential rift, and explained that he wasn't digging at the current presenter. Nor was he suggesting that her era of Football Focus is less-than.
"I’m not saying you haven’t Alex. It’s a saturated market and it’s hard work every week. I hope you have a good show today," he penned.
