In the recent January transfer window, a trio of EFL Championship clubs were approached by Italian Serie A side, Lazio, for some of their key players. It raised the eyebrows of many EFL Championship pundits and analysts, with the English second tier gaining recognition for its football calibre.
It got us thinking that if this league contains players good enough for Lazio, a Champions League competitor this term, there are likely to be plenty of prospects who could or should be on the respective radars of La Liga clubs, too.
Below, we check out four EFL Championship players with all the attributes necessary to succeed in Spain’s top flight.
Jack Clarke – Sunderland
23-year-old winger and inside forward, Jack Clarke, has been tearing it up for Sunderland over the last couple of seasons. He broke through the Leeds United youth system before clinching a big-money move to Tottenham in 2019. After four loans, Clarke found a home at the Stadium of Light and has scored 24 goals in 78 appearances to date.
Clarke is currently the joint-fourth top scorer in the Championship, which is no mean feat considering he’s an inverted winger. He loves to cut inside onto his right foot and shoot or cross from deep positions.
Omari Hutchinson – Ipswich Town
20-year-old Omari Hutchinson signed for Ipswich Town on a season-long loan from Chelsea. The London-born forward drifted between Chelsea, Charlton and Arsenal youth teams before signing professional terms with the Gunners. In 2022, he returned to Chelsea for a fee reportedly worth £3m-£5m.
