Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed he will run to be FC Porto's next president.
The 46-year-old, who also managed Tottenham Hotspur during his managerial stint in the Premier League, will come up against the long-serving Jorge Nuno Pinto Da Costa, who has held the position since 1982. Villas-Boas, who confirmed his intention to run earlier this week, has also managed Porto, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Shanghai SIPG and most recently Marseille in 2021.
Villa-Boas managed the Portuguese giants between in the 2010-2011 season and enjoyed substantial success in his sole campaign in charge as he completed a Primeira Liga, Portuguese Cup and Europea League sweep — losing just three games across all competitions.
Such an impressive introduction to the managerial world saw Villas-Boas dubbed the 'Mini-Mourinho' and swiftly poached by Stamford Bridge officials after Carlo Ancelotti's sacking in West London.
Thirteen years on from following in Mourinho's footsteps and swapping the Portuguese capital for London, Villa-Boas could, if successful in running for the president's role, be reunited with the 60-year-old at the Estadio do Dragao later. That's after Mourinho was relieved of his duties as AS Roma manager earlier this week after winning just eight of his Serie A matches with the Stadio Olimpico outfit this term.
As per Sky Bet, Mourinho is 16/1 to make an emotional return to Porto 20 years on from guiding the club to their one and only Champions League trophy. However, the three-time Premier League winner is the favourite to make a move to the Saudi Pro League (1/4), with Newcastle United (7/1) and Chelsea (10/1) favourites to hand Mourinho a return to England.
