Alejo Veliz has stepped up his return to action by taking to the pitch at Tottenham's Hotspur Way training base once again. A regular on the substitutes' bench for Tottenham this campaign following his summer move from Rosario Central, the 20-year-old was introduced in the 82nd minute of the team's 3-1 win over Bournemouth on New Year's Eve but had to make way in stoppage time.
Sustaining a knee injury, Veliz tried in vain to play on rather than going to ground to receive treatment from the team's medical staff. Eventually going down after Ange Postecoglou and fellow countryman Giovani Lo Celso demanded he did as he could barely move, the young striker exited the field in tears and had to be consoled by a number of his teammates as he knew it was a serious injury.
Speaking to the media ahead of the FA Cup third round tie against Burnley at the beginning of January, Postecoglou provided an injury update on his player and stated that the Argentine would be «out for a couple of months».
«From last week unfortunately Alejo suffered a fairly significant injury,» said the Australian. «He had scans after the game and it'll probably keep him out for a couple of months. He won't need surgery but he's suffered ligament damage.
»Disappointed for him because he's worked hard to get an opportunity in the last couple of weeks and has been growing into it so really disappointed for him. In terms of last week, no one else is an issue on the injury front."
Having received a number of boosts on the injury front of late with Rodrigo Bentancur, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison all returning to the team, Veliz has taken an important step in his recovery by getting back out on the grass at Hotspur Way. Uploading some footage to
