Dimitar Berbatov has claimed that signs of the old Tottenham Hotspur are there after losing their last three Premier League fixtures despite leading in all of them. Undefeated in Ange Postecoglou's first ten league games in charge of the club, Spurs have crashed back down to earth with a bang in recent weeks after defeats against Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa.
Slipping down to fifth as a result, Tottenham need to return to winning ways as quickly as possible but that may be quite the challenge this weekend with an away trip to leaders Man City on the agenda. Having more than enough chances to win their past three games despite their injury issues, everyone connected with the club will be hoping it all comes together on Sunday afternoon at the Etihad Stadium and they record a positive result.
Not expected to leave the home of the champions with anything given their current struggles, Berbatov has outlined the importance of Tottenham's reaction and stated that avoiding defeat in Manchester would constitute «a success».
«We wanted to see their reaction to how they lost against Chelsea, it’s been terrible based on the results. Yes, injuries are there, but this is the moment where you put your war boots on and try to get results no matter what,» said the Bulgarian in an interview with Betfair.
«Every other team has injuries as well — some more, some less. But to have three successive defeats, it shows you didn’t know how to react after your first loss. Not only that, but you took the lead in each of those games. So to give the lead away, it rings bells of the old Spurs.
»They need to correct that as soon as possible because they’re still near the top four. Don’t let the losing streak continue. You need the points to stay close
