Arsenal could take advantage of yet another shift in the transfer market to land a striker they've been linked with signing for over 11 years. The Gunners have endured a difficult first half to the Premier League season, having been competing at the very top once again but falling short in recent games, leaving them a few points off of league leaders Liverpool.
While defensive solidity has been the name of the game for Mikel Arteta this campaign, there has been some concern that it's been at the cost of some attacking flair. Three defeats on the trot to West Ham, Fulham and Liverpool all saw a lack of conviction in forwards taking opportunities in front of goal.
That has led to plenty of discussion over whether the Gunners can seal a January transfer for a striker that could show that clinical edge to win games. Brentford star Ivan Toney has been one proposed option, having impressed in his two seasons in the top flight so far.
The England international has missed the start of the campaign due to a suspension from an FA breach of gambling regulations, however he will make a return next week. With a physical edge on the ball and a striking blow in front of goal, the appeal is clear to see, however the transfer fee is less favourable.
The Bees are claimed to be asking for anywhere between £80million to £100million to let the striker leave over the next few weeks. It comes as a huge price tag that, combined with Arsenal's current finances, would mean a deal seems highly unlikely unless something changes.
