Arsenal are set to be in a battle to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface. The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Nigerian goal-machine but his services won't come easily.
Having only signed for Leverkusen over the summer, moving from Belgium after just one year there, his meteoric rise continues. The 23-year-old tops Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso and is making quite the name for himself too, scoring ten times in the first half of the season.
Only Harry Kane, Serhou Guirassy and Lois Openda have more than Boniface so far this term but he has also assisted seven, combining brilliantly with Florian Wirtz as well as Granit Xhaka and the deadly wing-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo. Now, with clubs across Europe looking to bolster their attacking options, Boniface is one of the most sought after players.
Chelsea have been mooted as a possible destination for the player whilst Arenal are also amongst the interested parties, reports suggest. Not even an injury that could see him out for the next two and a half months has been enough to dampen the hype though and it is said that West Ham are looking to exploit their connections with Bayer to secure a deal.
The Hammers appointed Tim Steidten as their sporting director over the summer and could use his relationships at previous club Bayer to help their chances. The Sun claim that they are still aiming to get a deal done before the end of the January window.
However, for every connection David Moyes' side may have, Arsenal have their own answers. football.london reported earlier this month that Boniface is actually a Gunners fan, something that could hand them a key advantage if it comes to making a decision between the two London clubs.
