Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has given his verdict on Liverpool’s title chances.
The two sides at the top of the Premier League table are set to face off at Anfield on Saturday. Liverpool are a point behind the Gunners and a win for either side would see them claim first spot, heading into the Boxing Day fixtures.
The Reds’ performance levels may have dipped slightly in recent weeks but the team showcased their quality with a convincing 5-1 win over West Ham in their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie on Wednesday night. Jurgen Klopp made six changes against the Hammers and it is the depth of Liverpool’s squad that has most impressed Bergkamp, as he explained when asked to name Arsenal’s biggest rivals for the Premier League title.

“I think Liverpool. I’ve got a funny feeling. I saw that game against (Manchester) United and they showed the bench and they showed the two players who were coming on and I was like ‘oh wait, they’ve got him and him and him’,” Bergkamp said on the Seaman Says podcast.
“They were all injured and if they come back at the right time they might be the biggest contenders to win. It’s about managing the team through this period and then get the advantage of it later on.”
It can be taken as a compliment to Liverpool that Manchester City were not included in the discussion. The Reds also have the likes of Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota to come back from injury and boost their title challenge. However, Bergkamp stressed the importance of navigating the hectic festive fixture list, when discussing Arsenal’s chances of winning the league.
