Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit's pre-season prediction is proving accurate, even though he wishes it wasn't.
The Frenchman has claimed he believed the Gunners were in desperate need to bolster their attacking line before the season got underway.
Petit, who made 118 appearances in all competitions and netted 11 goals for the north London side, was adamant the club needs to strengthen in depth.
Speaking to Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent on talkSPORT Drive, he said: «When they started the Premier League in August, I said to everyone, I wish they would win the Premier League, but I don't think they will.
»I don't think so, but why? They have quality players, but now they are going to play Champions League games, which takes a lot of energy.
«And they will have to compete as well in the rotation of the team. For example, Manchester City are stronger.
»When you look at the bench, with all the respect I have for Arsenal, they don't have the same quality players on the bench that can make a difference.
«If you change five or six players every three days, that impacts the way [Man] City plays.
»Arsenal have a proper way to play; you can see that, but I think they had quality players during the summer, but they need to add more quality players if they are to compete for every trophy.
«For me, at the moment, they are not ready for that.»
Arsenal drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield on December 23 and sat at the top of the Premier League.
Since then, three defeats have followed against West Ham, Fulham, and most recently, a 2-0 loss against Liverpool in the FA Cup third round.
It's evident that there's a critical issue that requires immediate attention and resolution.
