Arsenal have shown strong interest in signing another midfielder despite welcoming Kai Havertz and Declan Rice this past summer. A mini-midfield overhaul has been conducted in recent transfer windows with Fabio Vieira and Jorginho joining in the last 18 months with Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira all departing in that time.
In January 2022, Jorginho was joined by Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior as new arrivals, however with just under one week left of the current winter window, the Gunners are yet to make any additions. Rice and Havertz arriving as part of a lucrative summer spend soon to hit in the region of £230million is a large reason as to why Edu and Mikel Arteta somewhat have their hands tied.
Despite those FFP concerns, the Gunners have been linked with a huge number of names in nearly every position. Defensive-minded midfielders have frequently been included with Thomas Partey's days at Arsenal appearing numbered as he continues to be plagued by injury concerns.
Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz was the subject of three bids from Arsenal late into the 2022 summer window however he went on to sign a new contract at Villa Park. Despite that, he continues to be linked to an Emirates Stadium switch with an asking price in the region of £60million.
Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad is another player that has been discussed with his €60million (£52m) release clause likely to be activated soon amid interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Finally, Amadou Onana is the newest midfielder to be mooted as a target for Arsenal with Everton's precarious financial situation possibly meaning they may have to sell a star player or two with the £50million-rated midfielder as one who could be sacrificed.
