Declan Rice made light of the British transfer record getting smashed weeks after he signed for Arsenal.
The Gunners bought Rice earlier this summer in a £105million deal from West Ham.
Less than a month later, Chelsea came in and spent £115m on Moises Caicedo.
It is contentious whether Rice was ever the most expensive Premier League player after Chelsea spent £106.8m on Enzo Fernandez in January.
Nevertheless, Rice was asked about the record on Monday Night Football, following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, and whether he could believe he only 'held the record' for a few weeks.
His response left the Sky Sports studio in hysterics as he replied: «I had it up on the wall for two weeks, it's come down already!»
Speaking on his time at Arsenal so far, he said: «Do you know what, before the game tonight, I was on the way to the game, and I just thought: 'Let's go out there and try and put on a show'.
»I wanted to go out there and perform. I was just really up for it. Only two games in, obviously there's so much talk about the price tag and me playing for Arsenal.
«I want to keep proving people wrong, that I can play at the top, and I want to keep on putting in top performers.»
The 24-year-old was man of the match in the hard fought victory over Palace, as the Gunners played the final 23 minutes with 10 men.
«Can't believe Caicedo has broken your record already though Declan?»
