Asian Cup 2023 prize money: How much each team could earn from 2024 tournament in Qatar

The 2023 AFC Asian Cup sees the tournament return to Qatar for the first time since 2011 and on the back of the nation hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Tournament organisers have continued with their plans for a 24-team competition following an expansion from 16 national sides for the 2019 edition in the United Arab Emirates.

Qatar won their first-ever Asian Cup title in the UAE and they aiming to become the first team since Japan to defend the trophy, as the eyes of the football world once again focus on the middle east.

However, alongside the prospect of a major trophy, there are also key financial rewards on offer for participating sides and The Sporting News has the full details on how much each team will receive.

The total prize money for the competition is set at $14.8 million (£11.75m) with the winners in line to pick up $5 million (£3.96m).

The figures are the same as those awarded in 2019 after the AFC opted to give out prize money to teams for the first time in the competition's history.

The tournament followed the pattern of the 2022 World Cup by being moved to a winter slot due to excessive summer temperatures in Qatar. 

The 2023 AFC Asian Cup will kickoff on January 12, 2024 as Qatar take on Lebanon.

The group stages run until January 25, with the knockouts scheduled from January 28, and the final will be played on February 10.
