Sky Sports duo Ben Ransom and Alan Smith got a dousing from the sprinklers at Old Trafford as they broadcast from pitch-side before the game, despite warnings from Manchester United’s groundstaff.
Smith carried on talking even though he was literally dripping wet as he finished the segment. ‘It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen,’ said Ransom.
‘We were told not to do it pitch side because the sprinklers were about to come on, so we stepped into the stand onto one of the disabled supporter platforms.
‘But the wind or the angle of the sprinklers must have been the problem because they minute we started, it was like somebody was guiding a shower head directly into our faces.
‘Water was literally dripping off Alan's face and the fact he did the entire three-minute live piece with the sprinklers directly in his face without flinching shows you what a consummate professional he is.’
