Aston Villa to fall into Arsenal trap as Unai Emery makes bold Premier League title race claim

Robbie Savage believes Aston Villa do not have the experience to 'go the distance' in the race for the Premier League title. Unai Emery's side currently sit third in the English top-flight with 35 points after 16 games.

Liverpool are top of the table with 37 points, but the Merseyside outfit are closely followed by Arsenal in second. Manchester City, who have won each of the last three Premier League titles, are fourth on 33 points, while Tottenham place fifth on 30 points.

While the Gunners may not be leading the title race, Mikel Arteta will be determined to snatch Pep Guardiola's crown after a disappointing end to last term. Arsenal were top of the Premier League for a large majority of last season but they tripped at the final hurdle, surrendering first place to City with only a few games to spare.

In an interview with Planet Sport Bet, Robbie Savage predicted Villa to fall into a similar trap to the north Londoners this season. The former Derby County midfielder claimed that Emery's side don't have the experience to 'go the distance' – just like Arsenal in 2022/23.

«I didn’t think Aston Villa could get in the top-four but after the week they’ve had, beating Manchester City and Arsenal, I really wouldn’t rule them out,» said Savage. «I don’t think they can win the Premier League because Liverpool and Manchester City have been there and done it before.

»When I speak to people that have won the title it’s the pressure of those last 10 games which really makes the difference and that’s why what Leicester did was so phenomenal. Liverpool and Man City have been there and done it on countless occasions and I think that experience for their players will stand them in good stead.
