RB Leipzig have confimed that Timo Werner will not be part of the squad that is due to takeon St Gallen in a friendly on Saturday afternoon as he is 'in talk withs another club.' The 27-year-old former Chelsea striker is set to sign on a short-term loan deal with Tottenham.
Werner will become Spurs' first signing of the January window when he arrives at Hostpur Way as Ange Postecoglou looks to replace club captain Son Heung-min while he is away on international duty. Son will be out for Tottenham until February as he plays for South Korea at the Asia Cup.
It leaves Postecoglou without much depth in attack due to injuries for Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz and Ivan Perisic. Spurs were left to rely on a Pedro Porro wonderstrike less than 24 hours before the Leipzig statement as they beat Burnley in the FA Cup third round.
Werner, who left Chelsea in 2022 after two years at Stamford Bridge, is set to join on an initial six-month loan that could yet include an option to buy at the end of it. He only managed ten goals in 56 Premier League appearances for the Blues but did help them win the Champions League in his first season.
He rejoined Leipzig following an initial run of 78 Bundesliga goals in four years at the club. He has struggled to live up to the same standards though, only scoring 11 in the past 35 league games. He hasn't played since the start of November though due to poor form and then an injury.
Leipzig are due to play their first friendly back following the German winter break. Werner is just waiting for a full deal to be reached between both sides before he travels to England.
