Simon Jordan and Graeme Souness have slammed Timo Werner ahead of the forgotten Chelsea striker's impending transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from RB Leipzig recently after struggling to impress upon his return to the Bundesliga.
Werner, who sees his contract at the Red Bull Arena expire in 2026, has featured just eight times for Marco Rose's side in the German top-flight so far this season, scoring twice. Averaging less than half an hour an appearance, he faces an increasingly uncertain at RB Leipzig with Spurs mooted as a potential destination.
In fact, football.london understands that Werner was due to arrive at Hotspur Way on Monday night to finalise his loan in north London. it's believed that Tottenham will have the option to buy the former Blues in the summer for as little as £15.5million.
While Ange Postecoglou will be delighted to have secured cover for Son Heung-min, who's away at the Asian Cup with South Korea, Jordan and Souness are not convinced that Werner will be a hit at Spurs. Speaking to talkSPORT, the former said: «He’s very versatile, he misses goals with his left foot, right foot and his head.
Then, the former Liverpool defender added: „He needs five opportunities to score a goal, and he had one good season prior to coming here. He found it difficult to get goals and I would say nothing’s changed, he’s gone back to Leipzig and this season played eight games and scored two goals.
“He’s a stocking filler, he’s another body. I don’t think he’ll do very well, but having said that, he’s the kind of player that will get three or four chances every game because he’s rapid and gets himself in the right place.
