Bastian Schweinsteiger sends Bayern Munich message and aims sly Arsenal dig at Mikel Arteta

Bastian Schweinsteiger has aimed a cheeky dig at Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal's clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The Gunners will welcome the Bundesliga outfit to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening as either side hopes to progress into the semi-final.

Arsenal enjoyed a 3-0 win over Brighton at the weekend, meanwhile, Bayern Munich suffered a disastrous 3-2 defeat on the road to Heidenheim. Thomas Tuchel's side head into the first-leg winless in two games and Arteta will be determined to pile on the misery.

With no away fans set to be in attendance, Bayern Munich are already at a disadvantage – but that hasn't crushed Schweinsteiger's hope of a result in north London. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly before the clash, the 39-year-old wished his former side well.

«Road to Wembley – Pack ma’s @FCBayern [arm flexing emoji],» wrote Schweinsteiger, which translates from Bavarian to 'let's do it' in English. The German also posted two pictures from when Bayern Munich faced the Gunners in the Champions League round of 16 back in February 2013 – one of which, cheekily, included Arteta.

The German outfit defeated Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg before suffering a 2-0 loss at the Allianz Arena in the reverse fixture. Bayern Munich progressed into the quarterfinal on away goals – a rule which is no longer applicable.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the clash, Arteta was quizzed on the north Londoners' poor record against Schweinsteiger's former side. The Spaniard said: «That’s history. When you look at their history in the competition, it’s clear.
