Gabriel handball called out by Thomas Tuchel as Bayern Munich denied clear penalty vs Arsenal

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has insisted that his team should have been awarded another penalty against Arsenal during a 'crazy and awkward' moment in the Champions League tie.

The Gunners managed a 2-2 draw against the German champions on Tuesday night thanks to Leandro Trossard's equaliser less than 15 minutes from time. This came after Harry Kane had given Bayern the lead from the penalty spot at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Tuchel believed his team should have been given another penalty in the second half when Gabriel Magalhaes handled the ball as he prepared to take a goal kick. Explaining why he thought the Gunners should have been penalised, the former Chelsea head coach told TNT Sports: «I think the referee did not have the courage today to give a deserved penalty in a bit of a crazy and awkward situation.

»But he admitted on the pitch that he saw the situation and that a quarter-final is not enough for him to give a penalty for his mistake. He admitted he knew about the mistake the player made and that is a bit frustrating.

«It was from the goalkeeper, he was whistling and the keeper passed to the central defender, I am not sure which one it was but he touched the ball with his hand because he thought it is not in the game, but it was in game. The referee admitted it was in game and it was a handball.

»It was not worth looking at the mistake which is very frustrating for our players and leaves us angry." The 2-2 draw leaves the tie firmly in the balance ahead of the return fixture at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.
