Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has dismissed claims that manager Xabi Alonso has a clause in his contract that could see him become Liverpool manager.
The iconic Reds midfielder is enjoying the fruits of his labour in the German hotseat. Alonso has steered Leverkusen clear of precarious waters, enjoying a strong Europa League run in his debut season, to challenging his former club Bayern Munich for the title.
Die Werkself currently sit top of the Bundesliga, unbeaten in their opening 11, dropping points just once - against their nearest challengers Bayern in September.

Earlier in the season, it was claimed that Liverpool, Real Madrid or the Bavarians could leave Leverkusen if there is interest from Alonso's former club. The clause was said to allow the European giants to approach the German side and pave way to be the new manager.
"No, but you don't need a clause. We have a very, very good relationship with Xabi and he knows we are a serious club," Carro said speaking to Ben Jacobs.
"And at the end of the day, we're not going to force someone to stay if he doesn't want to stay. We want him to feel so happy and so good with us that he really only wants to stay and this is our objective...
"There is nothing on paper [allowing Xabi to leave for a former club]. But sometimes agreements that are not on paper are agreements as well.
"We know if he needs to do a move in the future we will be able to talk with each other. And I hope we will not need to do this because he will stay and be happy at Leverkusen."
