Gerald Darmanin, French interior minister, claimed that Benzema has «notorious links» with the Islamist organization Muslim Brotherhood
Karim Benzema, the formerReal Madrid striker who currently plays for Al-Ittihad Jeddah Club in the Saudi Professional League, has filed a complaint against French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.
Benzema's lawyers explained on RTL radioBenzema's lawsuit against Darmanin, who linked the footballer to the Islamist group Muslim Brotherhood. He stated that «a person's name is being dragged just for communicative reasons. With family consequences for those close to him that are considerable.»
«Hearing those words makes some people exclude Benzema and others feel excluded by hearing them… It is the opposite of what is expected from a person who considers himself a statesman,» Karim's lawyer said.
Gerald Darmanin, France's Interior Minister, accused Benzema of having links with the Islamist group Muslim Brotherhood, which in countries such as France, the United States, Russia or Egypt is considered a terrorist organization.
«We have closed more than 1,100 Islamist centers and I am referring specifically to Mr. Karim Benzema who has notorious links, as we all know, with the Muslim Brotherhood. We are attacking a hydra which is the Muslim Brotherhood that generates a jihadist atmosphere,»Darmanin said on CNews targeting the current Al-Ittihad striker and former Real Madrid player.
Darmanin made these controversial statements afterBenzema considered Israel's bombings against the Palestinian territory unjust.
«All our prayers for the inhabitants of Gaza who are once again victims of these unjust bombardments that spare neither women nor children,» tweeted Benzema.
