Renato Sanches’ (26) loan move to AS Roma has not gone to plan. The Portuguese international has failed to stave off the injuries, and as a result, the Serie A club want to send him back to Paris Saint-Germain. However, PSG will only accept a recall if another destination can be found for Sanches, and according to L’Équipe, Beşiktaş are an interested party.
Sanches has played a mere 227 minutes for José Mourinho’s side since making the season-long loan move to the Italian capital. He has been affected by injuries, but also a lack of confidence. Mourinho has previously said that he feels the player “fears” getting injured, which is affecting his levels in training, and subsequently, on the pitch too.
He is surplus to requirements at Roma, but that is also the case at PSG, who are still in the process of remoulding their midfield. Sanches will not be part of that new-look midfield, which is already taking form. The club are desperate not to have a repeat of the situation in previous years, with many high-profile players in the “loft”.
As a result, a new club must be found for Sanches, if he is to be recalled. That club could be Beşiktaş, who according to L’Équipe are lining up a move for the out-of-favour Portuguese midfielder. Sanches’ time at Roma could, therefore, be set to come to an end.
