The best vegetarian and vegan Chinese dish in the country - is officially served in Liverpool city centre.
Woo Tan Scran, based in Down The Hatch on Duke Street, has come out on top in the veggie category of the prestigious Golden Chopsticks Awards. The Liverpool winner was announced in a fancy awards ceremony in London last night on Monday, April 29.
Co-owner of Woo Tan Scran, Jay Baker was given the award by Golden Chopsticks' founder Gok Wan, alongisde Nisha Katona and Simon Rimmer, among other celebrity chefs. This is the second year in a row that Woo Tan Scran won the award for best veggie dish.

While in 2021, the team won the Best Newcomer at the awards, making it a hat-rick for Woo Tan Scran. The much loved plant-based chippy was founded by Jay Baker, Tim Leah, Conrad Sharp and Alex Woo back in 2019, after they spotted a gap in the market for a vegan Chinese takeaway.
It launched on Lark Lane and quickly gained an army of fans, thanks to its extensive menu of homemade vegan comfort food. However the team made the difficult decision to part ways with their Lark Lane site in 2022, due to rising cost of gas, electricity and produce.
With foodies still wanting to get their hands on their Woo Tan fix, they moved into Down The Hatch in Liverpool city centre. Jay, previously told the ECHO: "Letting go of Woo Tan as a site was kind of a relief - it wasn't good for me mentally, it was such a cause of stress. As a business owner, you have to weigh it up - we couldn't keep it just because people loved it.
