Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that he hopes to have left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko available for Monday night's Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.
The Ukraine international has been sidelined with a calf issue since May but he has returned to training in recent weeks, with his presence now needed more than ever following Jurrien Timber's anterior cruciate ligament injury. Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Palace, Arteta said: "Alex has been doing really well.
"He’s been training with us and hopefully we’re going to have him very, very soon." The Spaniard also confirmed that striker Gabriel Jesus won't be available for the trip to Selhurst Park, with the Brazilian international still recovering from a minor knee procedure.
Arteta added: "Gabi still not available and not fit, but the rest is all good." Jesus had sustained medial ligament damage during a World Cup group stage fixture against Cameroon in 2022, causing him to miss nearly four months of action last season.
The 26-year-old eventually recovered in time for the final part of the 2022/23 campaign and looked sharp in pre-season this summer. But he felt discomfort in the very same knee, forcing the surgery to take place.
Young striker Eddie Nketiah took Jesus' place in Arsenal's starting line-up on Saturday as they defeated Nottingham Forest 2-1 in their Premier League opener. Nketiah opened the scoring at the Emirates Stadium before Bukayo Saka's long-range stunner secured all three points for the home side.
