Arsenal loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga produced an impressive display against Manchester United on Sunday. Luton Town lost 2-1 at Kenilworth Road but came close to salvaging a point, partly due to the diligent defensive work of Sambi Lokonga.
The midfielder has started the Hatters’ last eight games after recovering from a hamstring injury and will hope to impress Arsenal by helping to keep Rob Edwards’ side in the Premier League. Lokonga certainly would have reminded the Gunners that they have quality players out on loan with his performance against Man United.
The 24-year-old partnered a resurgent Ross Barkley in midfield and played the most passes of any player on the pitch (72) with an accuracy of 95.8 per cent. However, a moment of Lokonga’s defensive work most caught Gary Neville’s eye on commentary.

In the second half, a well-worked counter-attack saw Man United captain Bruno Fernandes get in behind the Luton defence and around goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski. Fernandes was still unable to score, though, as Sambi Lokonga carried on his recovery run and produced a sliding block to deny the forward.
Working on the game for Sky Sports, Neville summarised the incident: “Lokonga, it’s a brilliant counter-attack from United and Kaminski gets caught in no man's land. But he doesn’t give up, he doesn’t stop. And he just throws everything at it. Bruno Fernandes can’t believe it.”
Arsenal have been linked with defensive midfielders in the previous two transfer windows, but it remains to be seen whether Sambi Lokonga will be part of Mikel Arteta’s plans next
