The round of 16 of the Champions League 2023-24 came to an end. In them, 16 teams fought for a place in the quarter-finals of the top continental competition.
After a thrilling knockout rounds, only eight of them achieved their goal and continue in the fight to lift the coveted trophy on 1st July at the legendary Wembley Stadium (London).
Thomas Tuchel's side comfortably came through as group winners and lived up to expectations in the last 16 against Lazio. The Italian side stunned the Germans in the first leg with a 1-0 win, but the reigning Bundesliga champions made the Allianz Arena a fortress and earned their place in the last 16 thanks to a 3-0 win with goals from Harry Kane (twice) and Thomas Müller.
The 14-time European champions reached the quarter-finals with more suffering than expected. After winning all their matches in the group stage, the draw for the last 16 paired them with a RB Leipzig side that dominated the 'Merengues' for many moments of the tie. The 0-1 scoreline in the first leg (Brahim's goal) proved decisive in a tie that ended 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu with Vinicius scoring for the Spanish capital side.
Despite coming into the knockout phase as group runners-up, PSG were at their best in the moment of truth. Real Sociedad made life difficult for the French side for much of the first leg, but two bright sparks from Mbappe and Barcola made the tie all but over (2-0). In the return leg at Anoeta, the Parisians gave their opponents no chance and beat them again, this time 2-1 with a brace from Mbappe, sealing their qualification.
