Carlo Ancelotti is keen to keep Luka Modric at Real Madrid for a little bit longer.
The 38-year-old contact with Los Blancos ends at the end of the current campaign and the next generation is more than ready to take over.
According to The Athletic, Ancelotti has, in fact, offered the Croatian midfielder a chance to join his coaching staff.
The report adds that the proposal had been presented to Modric two months ago and was initially turned down by the player.
It now looks as though Modric could accept the offer to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu should he hang up his boots this summer.
Modric has featured 20 times in LaLiga so far this campaign and plans to focus on helping Croatia at the European Championships in Germany before making any decision.
Speaking after Real Madrid's win over Getafe in February, Ancelotti heaped praise on the experienced midfielder, and expressed his desire to keep the midfielder at the club.
He said: “As I have already said (on other occasions), Luka is a legend of football, of Real Madrid. The decisions for next season have to be taken by him."
Modric signed a new one-year contract extension with Los Blancos last June after snubbing a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
The Croatia international moved to Real Madrid from Tottenham in the summer of 2012 and has made 516 appearances for the club to date.
His 23 honours include five Champions League trophies, three LaLiga titles, and five Club World Cup triumphs.
He also picked up the Ballon d’Or in 2018, amongst an array of other accolades, while in the Spanish capital.
