Sir Jim Ratcliffe has provided a clear vision of what Manchester United supporters can expect in the summer transfer window and beyond.
It is no secret that United have spent years faltering in the market, leading to a decade of underachievement. The lack of a footballing structure within the club’s hierarchy was cited as a major factor in the Reds’ lack of coherence - both on the pitch and in the transfer market - and is an issue that the Ineos group have immediately looked to rectify.
United are expected to have a fresh approach to recruitment as Ineos oversees footballing operations. Sir Jim Ratcliffe explained the type of players that the club will be targeting when asked about the possibility of signing PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, who is set to be a free agent in the summer.

“I would rather sign the next Mbappe rather than spend a fortune buying success,” Ratcliffe said on The Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast. “It’s not that clever buying Mbappe. Anyone could figure that one out. More challenging is to find the next Mbappe or next Bellingham or next Roy Keane.”
The new footballing structure, headed up by Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford, will include newly-appointed CEO Omar Berrada, while Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth is also on gardening leave ahead of joining United. Every club will be looking to unearth the next gem, but United stand a better chance of beating their rivals to the punch with a stringent approach to recruitment.
