Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has compared VAR to a car — and insists that big changes must come soon.
VAR has come under fire in recent days after a serious blunder that saw Liverpool star Luis Diaz's goal ruled out against Tottenham when he was onside.
It has led to calls from Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to replay the match that Liverpool lost 2-1 — though he has since insisted he was misquoted.
And Pochettino has revealed his own thoughts on VAR, which included a car analogy.
In his press conference on Friday afternoon, he said: «I trust the car, but the driver...
»I was very critical from the beginning many years ago. The technology of whether it is across the line to keep, and the offside also. Then we can discuss whether the referee needs the last say.
«For me, it is about simplifying the situation. The most important is to give more power to the referee.
»To accept when he is fouled because sometimes in life perception is different.
«It is really tricky when you see the action through VAR, with some situations make bigger but sometimes people who play football know it's what you see in the image.
»But offside and goal line [technology] they are the two to keep.
«Then it's about penalties, some actions to judge in the game, it is for the referee.
»At the moment we are not happy with VAR, the people in charge and we are not happy with the referee. One step back may make things easier and more clear."
