Chelsea striker Aggie Beever-Jones admits she has been «pleasantly surprised» by her excellent form this term and hopes she is making managerEmma Hayes «proud».
The 20-year-old came through the Blues' academy ranks before putting pen to paper on a professional deal in 2021. Two productive loan spells followed, with Beever-Jones having spent time with both Championship side Bristol City and Women's Super League (WSL) outfit Everton.
After impressing at Walton Hall Park last season, it was decided the young forward would remain at Chelsea for the duration of the 2023/24 campaign — and she has so far surpassed expectations to score eight goals in just seven starts for the WSL champions. «When I found out I was staying at Chelsea at the start of this season I didn’t have any expectations of what I wanted that year, I just thought I would try my best in training and get a few games here and there,» she told football.london.
«I’ve definitely been pleasantly surprised by myself. I had a chat with Emma the other week and she said: ‘I want you to add more assists to your game’ and then I got two assists. Just obviously with Emma I know what she wants with me which is always nice, and hopefully I’m making her proud and showing a bit more about myself on the pitch.”
Beever-Jones' goals have been crucial for Chelsea this term, especially with talisman Sam Kerr and fellow striker Mia Fishel both having suffered anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in recent months. And she believes the experience she gained while out on loan has played a vital role in developing her skillset.
