Chelsea transfer news: The Blues could be coming up against their former attacking star later this season as a potential move to the Premier League opens up.
One of football's brightest sparks is sitting on the bench unable to get a minute for Atletico Madrid. After leaving the club midway through last season in search of a new start, Joao Felix is back to square one.
The 23-year-old didn't play a minute for Diego Simeone's side in pre-season and was forced to watch on from the sidelines on the opening day of the 2023/24 La Liga season. Madrid won that one 3-1 but against Real Betis six days later he was left out entirely. The attacker isn't expected to be involed in the action against Rayo Vallecano on Monday night either.
Now, Felix is in limbo. Simeone prefers hardworking and rigid players, Felix wants a way out and all parties are at a standstill. When the transfer window closes in four days time there will be eyes on Felix and what is to come but at this stage things are still in the air.
"I’d love to play for Barça," he told Fabrizio Romano earlier in the summer. "Barcelona has always been my first choice and I’d love to join Barça. It was always my dream since I was a kid. If it happens, it will be a dream come true for me."
However, from the Madrid side there is a more bullish stance. "Joao Felix is clear that he does not want to play for Atletico Madrid," club president Enrique Cerezo told La Sexta last week. "Whether they want him at other clubs, that's a different question, but even if he doesn't want to be, he's still an Atletico Madrid player."
