Chelsea transfer news: Michael Olise is at the centre of a summer battle between the Blues and Manchester City with the first bid verbally made
Chelsea and Manchester City remain locked in a battle to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, however the Blues now look to hold the advantage.
The France Under-21 international enjoyed a great end to the 2022/23 season under interim boss Roy Hodgson, who has since stayed on as Eagles manager for another year, but Olise could now depart Selhurst Park this summer.
Hodgson himself has even spoken out on Olise's future, as quoted by Chris Wheatley, in a press conference last Tuesday, he said: “Clubs are circling around him and we are going to have a fight on our hands to make sure he stays with us.”
Interest from Stamford Bridge first emerged in July with Man City also keeping tabs on his situation with the future of Riyad Mahrez up in the air at that time. In the weeks following, Mahrez moved to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli and as a result Man City entered the market with Jeremy Doku also identified as a potential replacement.
According to The Athletic, Man City have set their limit for Olise at £50million which is unlikely to be enough for Palace to sanction an exit. However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed there is a £35million release clause in his contract, despite reports there was no such clause.
Therefore the advantage could be with the reigning Premier League champions, but as per RMC journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the 21-year-old winger currently has a slight preference to join Chelsea over Man City. The Blues now look to have made their first approach for Olise with Hawkins reporting a €30million (£25.9m) verbal offer has been put forward.
