Chelsea appear to still be in the market for a new striker this summer despite having already signed Nicolas Jackson, who enjoyed a fantastic pre-season under Mauricio Pochettino
According to Brazilian publication Globo Esporte, Chelsea have made an offer to Santos for Deivid Washington. The report states that the west Londoners are prepared to spend €15million (£13million), including €5million (£4.3million) in add-ons, for the 18-year-old talisman.
Globo Esporte add that Santos are 'studying' for now, although they'd prepare a fee closer to Washington's €30million (£25.9million) release clause. It's said that it's 'possible' that Chelsea's bid will be accepted, but Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the wonderkid.
The Blues already signed Angelo Gabriel from Santos earlier this summer as part of a similar deal, and the winger certainly caught the eye in pre-season. Washington has featured 16 times for the Brazilian giants this season, scoring two goals.
If Chelsea manage to secure Washington's signature before the end of August, he'll likely be loaned out to Strasbourg in France. But, if he joins the first-team squad then he'll face tough competition from Nicolas Jackson for a place in the starting lineup.
"He is a big talent, he needs time to adapt to the new club, the Premier League. This type of game is important to him to feel what it means to play in the Premier League.
"He has big talent, is young also and for sure we need to help him to develop and evolve and improve and to be an important player for Chelsea in the future, not only in the future."
