Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku (30) is expected to spend the 2023-24 season on loan at Serie A side AS Roma. Foot Mercato reported this Saturday that the Blues and the Giallorossi are in talks regarding the Belgium international’s loan fee. The 2022 Europa Conference League winners have offered €4m to their Premier League counterparts whilst the latter are holding out for a €7m loan fee. The outlet understands that both clubs have found an agreement regarding Lukaku’s wages for the season.
Lukaku’s return to Chelsea in a €113m move two years ago completely backfired. The former Everton and Manchester United man fell victim of the so-called curse surrounding the Blues’ #9 jersey and even spoke of his desire to return to Inter Milan mere months after sealing his comeback to West London. Lukaku spent last season on loan with the Nerazzurri, logging fourteen goals and seven assists in 37 games played with Simone Inzaghi’s side. Upon his return to Chelsea, Lukaku was reportedly in talks with Juventus and Tottenham. Now it appears that “Big Rom” is heading to Rome.
AS Roma were in the market for a centre-forward in the wake of Tammy Abraham’s ACL injury at the end of the past Serie A campaign. Lukaku is also set to reunite with José Mourinho. The Portuguese boss previously coached the Belgian striker at Chelsea and Manchester United.
