Chelsea's overhaul of staff continues in the recruitment department despite the January window closing two weeks ago. Having made numerous changes to the personnel in place at Stamford Bridge and Cobham in the last 18 months, things aren't settled or finalised just yet.
Chelsea now have two co-sporting directors in place — Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart -as well as Joe Shields as director of recruitment and talent. Originally the club had also appointed Christopher Vivell to join the group but he left shortly after arriving from Red Bull group.
Further shifting in bodies has seen loan player technical coach Andy Myers leave the club — he was previously development squad head coach — in order to join former assistant Joe Edwards at Milwall. Meanwhile, changes to the scouting department have also followed in the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital revolution.
Things had remained steady for a while since the summer as the new recruitment team set about putting plans in action — the last two windows were their first and have seen a more aligned, even if imperfect, strategy. Now, though, there is more to come.
The Athletic report that Swansea City head of football operations, Josh Marsh, is set to come on board at the new loans manager. Marsh has previously worked at Huddersfield Town, where he went from being a chief scout to head of recruitment. He joined the Swans in 2022 after four years in his previous role in Yorkshire, he spent six years with the Terriers in total.
Marsh has been involved in scouting and recruitment for over a decade now after joining Wolves following the end of a playing career at Wrexham as a junior. He moved up the ranks in the Midlands before joining Southampton briefly.
