Real Madrid set spending limit on Alphonso Davies pursuit - report
Real Madrid are not prepared to pay more than €40m in order to sign Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich this summer, according to a report from Spain.
Davies has emerged as one of Madrid's two top transfer targets for the summer window alongside Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe. Unlike Mbappe, who is out of contract and will not require a transfer fee to sign but instead is demanding a lucrative contract, Madrid will have to pay a transfer fee to bring in Davies.
The Canada international's contract at the Allianz Arena runs until 2025 and reports from across Europe have already claimed Madrid have asked him not to sign a new one so they can facilitate a transfer with greater ease.
state Madrid are reluctant to go beyond their €40m valuation of Davies due to his contract situation and knowing he wants to join them, with personal terms not an issue. This is in contrast to Bayern's pricing of Davies via, which stands at €60m.
Bayern are ultimately unwilling to meet Davies' demands of a gross salary worth €20m a year, while Madrid have no such problems paying that sum. This figure stands at nearly double the amount Los Blancos pay David Alaba, who joined them from Bayern on a free transfer in 2021.
Davies' saga has been compared to that involving Madrid and Bayern over the transfer of Toni Kroos back in 2014, with the midfielder swapping Germany for Spain in a deal worth €25m after he entered the final year of his contract.
In Davies' place, Bayern are keen to sign AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez, who ironically was once on the books of Madrid.
But Madrid will not be backed into a corner by Bayern knowing full well they could sign Davies for free next summer and they are well covered in the left-back area.
