Chelsea transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino must make a number of key decisions regarding loan moves before the 2023/24 campaign kicks off
Mauricio Pochettino has revealed exactly when he will decide the future of several Chelsea stars ahead of the 2023/24 season. Pochettino has offered numerous opportunities to the Blues young stars during the USA pre-season tour with Andrey Santos and Ian Maatsen among those to impress.
Alongside that duo, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, Diego Moreira, Mason Burstow, Angelo Gabriel and Bashir Humphreys have all featured stateside. Another young star in Levi Colwill has also been used scarcely following his late return to pre-season after competing in the European Under-21 championships with England.
However, a major decision looks to have already made on his future amid interest from Brighton and Liverpool. According to The Athletic, Colwill has agreed to a new six-year contract with Chelsea.
The report states that nothing has been signed yet, but the paperwork is in place for Colwill to sign a deal a deal which keeps him at Stamford Bridge until at least 2029.
When asked about Colwill, Pochettino offered a glimpse into his relationship with the 20-year-old. "At the moment I need to see him and know each other better. He is a fantastic talent. We are talking also how we can improve his game. He is so relaxed, so calm. So happy to have him in the squad."
Santos looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge for the 2023/24 season, while Lewis Hall and Gabriel are primed for loan moves. However, decisions are still to be made on Chukwuemeka, Casadei, Moreira and Maatsen with Pochettino now providing a clear deadline for Chelsea to resolve their immediate futures.
