Chelsea vs Tottenham Premier League clash postponed after Carabao Cup win

The Premier League clash between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge has been postponed. The two London rivals were due to meet at the Blues' home ground on Friday, February 23.

It may be in a month's time, but that clash has now been postponed. That is because the Blues made it through to the final of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, beating Middlesbrough 6-1.

Four first-half goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s side effectively ended the tie as a contest as a Jonny Howson own goal and strikes from Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi and Cole Palmer showed a clinical side to Chelsea rarely seen this season. Noni Madueke and a second from Palmer wrapped up an emphatic comeback late on before Morgan Rogers gave travelling Boro fans a reason to cheer two minutes from time.

And that win means Mauricio Pochettino's side are though to the final of the competition, with the final due to be played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 25. With the Blues now in final action at Wembley on the Sunday, the Premier League clash with Spurs on the Friday night will have to be rearranged.

The meeting between the two London heavyweights will be hugely anticipated given what happened in the first clash between the sides earlier this season. Tottenham went into the game on a 10-game unbeaten streak, but that was ended by their former boss Pochettino at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs were reduced to nine men with Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie both being sent off. Spurs still had their chances to grab something from the game at 2-1 down, before two late Nicolas Jackson goals — to secure his hat-trick — rounded off a 4-1 win for the visitors. A rearranged date will be confirmed by the Premier League in due course.
