Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has seemingly taken a swipe at Mauricio Pochettino's comments following the Sky Blues' draw with Chelsea.
The tense match ended 1-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with Raheem Sterling opening the scoring for Chelsea before Rodri secured a point for the hosts in the final minutes. The result leaves City four points behind Liverpool, the current leaders of the Premier League.
After the game, Pochettino expressed his pride and satisfaction with Chelsea's performance to BBC Match of the Day. The Argentinian explained how happy he was with how the Blues played, especially in the first half of the game, before claiming that City are the best football team in the world.
«I'm so pleased. I told the players I feel so proud,» Pochettino said. «In the last three games we've started to create a very good spirit. That's the way we want to build our team. Today was a very good opportunity to show we're going where we want. The first half was really, really good. We only conceded one chance against a team like Manchester City who, for me, are the best team in the world.
»In the second half they force you to go deep, but we created chances to score the second goal and things could have been different. It's important that the players realise that football is really competitive and to reach the level we want, we need to suffer."
But when Pochettino's comments were relayed to Guardiola, the Spaniard responded with a hint of sarcasm: «Good, congratulations,» he said. «If he believes that, that is good for his team.»
