Mauricio Pochettino is facing a defining few months in the hopes of keeping his job as Chelsea head coach. The Blues picked up a point from their recent Premier League clash against Brentford with Axel Disasi heading home a late equaliser after the Bees turned the game on its head with two quick-fire goals in the second half following Nicolas Jackson's opener.
While Chelsea were behind, supporters in the away section at the Gtech Community Stadium made their feelings known with a number of X-rated chants aimed at Pochettino and co-owner Todd Boehly. «Yes, I've been told but I did not hear, to be honest,» Pochettino said when asked about the chants at full-time.
«That is why it is difficult for me to understand. I don't know. I need to believe what you are telling me but it is normal. We were losing the game 2-1 and it's about to express their frustration and we are responsible. I am responsible. I am the head coach.»
Seven days prior to the draw against Brentford, Chelsea lost the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool in heart-breaking fashion with Virgil van Dijk scoring a winner in the final stages of extra-time. After dropping more points, it continues to look highly unlikely that Chelsea can achieve a European spot from their Premier League finish, however their season is not over.
In between the defeat to Liverpool and draw with Brentford, the Blues beat Leeds United in the FA Cup to set up a quarter-final tie against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. Winning a trophy could help Pochettino save his job in west London, although many associated with the club believe it is already over for the Argentine.
However, only the opinion of Boehly and Behdad Eghbali matter as they will likely hold the final say on Pochettino's future,
