Yesterday evening, FC Nantes made history as they beat FC Copenhagen in the Youth League becoming the second French side to reach the semi-finals after Paris Saint-Germain in 2016.
The Nantes under-19s came back from a 3-1 deficit at halftime to level the scores by the end of the second half, taking the game to penalties in front of a record French crowd at the Stade de la Beaujoire.
19,301 spectators watched as La Maison Jaune progressed to the semi-finals as they won the shootout 5-4. It has become a habit of the Nantes side to leave progression until last as they have won five out of their four games through a penalty shootout.
Only the 1-0 victory over RB Salzburg remains the exception, for a team looking to go further than any French side that has come before it by reaching the final.
Only Paris Saint-Germain has reached this stage before when they were defeated by Chelsea in 2016. If Nantes hope to better them then they will need to defeat Olympiacos on the 19th of April.
This news comes as a bright moment in an otherwise difficult season for La Maison Jaune as they look to attempt to steer themselves clear of the relegation zone.
