Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham are among the Premier League's most improved sides when you compare their points tallies to the same stage last season.
This time last year Aston Villa were languishing down in the relegation zone, with Steven Gerrard struggling to get a tune out of his players. Fast forward 12 months and Unai Emery has transformed Villa into one of the Premier League's most formidable sides.
There's also been a dramatic turnaround for Liverpool, who made a slow start last term and didn't get much better as they stuttered to their worst placing of the Jurgen Klopp era.
The Reds did improve in the final weeks of the 2022-23 campaign, though, and only narrowly missed out on the top four – and now they look like a side transformed with a new-look midfield after their summer rebuild.
Somewhat surprisingly, Tottenham have an almost identical record than they had at the same stage last season.
Ange Postecoglou's side have been something of a surprise package with a lightning-fast start, but they've only actually picked up three more points than at the same stage last year under Antonio Conte. They've scored as many goals and actually conceded one less.
However, that only tells half the story – anyone who's watched Tottenham regularly will tell you that the performance levels are much higher this time around.
Spurs flattered to deceive somewhat in the early stages of last season and were found eventually as they ended up failing to qualify for European football entirely. There's hope that these results will be somewhat more sustainable this time around.
