Rio Ferdinand has branded Roy Keane’s claim that Bruno Fernandes should be stripped of the Manchester United captaincy due to his attitude against Manchester City as “crazy”.
Keane said that despite being a good player, Fernandes was “not captain material” and explained how unimpressed he was with the midfielder’s behaviour towards the end of the 3-0 Premier League defeat. Fernandes was visibly frustrated with how the game went and picked up a yellow card for hurtling into a number of challenges late on.
Keane said post-match: "The first thing I would do, having watched him again today, is definitely take the captaincy off him, 100 per cent. I think he is a talented player, no doubt about it.

"But what I saw today with him again, and I know we have discussed this many times before, was him whinging, moaning, throwing his arms up in the air and it really isn't acceptable and after what we saw today I would take it off him.
"Fernandes is a brilliant footballer. In terms of captain material, he is the opposite of what I would want in a captain."
Ferdinand has taken issue with Keane’s comments, saying that stripping Fernandes of captaincy would only add fuel to the fire at Old Trafford. The former United teammate added that there is no one else to give the armband to, anyway.
Speaking on YouTube show FIVE, Ferdinand reacted to Keane’s comments. He began: "Who else is there? If there was somebody jumping off the page that you go, 'Okay yeah he should actually go and get it,' I would say, 'Okay you can consider that,' but throwing out comments like that..."
