Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has urged David Raya to snub interest from Arsenal amid reports linking him to a move to the Emirates.
The Brentford stopper has been sought after by several top clubs in this window after enjoying a series of excellent campaigns with the west London side.
Premier League title chasers Arsenal are leading the way for the 27-year-old's signature, though Bent - who spent two seasons with rivals Spurs - has asked why the Spanish international would want to play second fiddle to Aaron Ramsdale and put forward Chelsea as an alternative.
‘David Raya is better than Kepa Arrizabalaga,’ Bent told talkSPORT. ‘So why would Chelsea not go for him?
‘And why would David Raya not think, “Hold on, why am I going to Arsenal to play behind Aaron Ramsdale? Why don’t I go to Chelsea and be their number one?”
‘There’s something not quite right with Arsenal’s deal for David Raya. If I was Chelsea, I would be trying to get him.’
The Bees stopper, who kept 12 clean sheets in the league last season, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal.
The Gunners are now expected to expected to ramp up their bid to sign the £40million-rated keeper, according to reports.
Mikel Arteta's side emerged as frontrunners after Brentford rejected Bayern Munich’s offer of a loan deal with the option to sign Raya permanently.
It is understood the Spaniard would not replace Ramsdale as No 1, but would be used in cup competitions and provide greater competition for the England international.
